Jesus crucified or pole-ified?

Jehova's Witnesses claim Jesus was not nailed to a cross, but a pole. Any
truth to this? They have a whole chapter in their bible explaining why they
use 'pole' instead of 'cross' in their translations, so it's too much to
list here. I already did once in a Norwegian newsgroup, but nobody seems to
know.

Also, what does the word ksy'lon mean? This is used somewhere in the
explanation, but it doesn't say what it means, only where it is used.
