Christians and intellectual integrity and honesty

HOBBS
What I did not expect is that anyone would continue in the thoroughly
dishonest and deceptive manner in which the long-time Christians on the list
have done. And the thing that really baffles me is that I think they are not
being intentionally
dishonest and deceptive; they are being dishonest with themselves, and
so, somehow, aren't even aware of it.

TILL
I'm not so sure that they are not aware of their intellectual dishonesty. I
knew at least two years before I quit the ministry that everything I had
been taught about the Bible was a sham, but I just didn't have the courage
to admit it. I found lying to be a better alternative than admitting that I
had been wrong. I have to wonder if there aren't some on the list who are
in this stage right now. They know they are wrong, but they just can't
admit it.
