Since this is a debate list, Hedges Rules for Controversy will be
strictly observed. . . .

. . . If these rules are not observed the sender will be taken off of
the list. . . .

. . . All expressions which are unmeaning, or without effect,
in regard to the subject in debate, should be strictly avoided . . . all
technical ambiguities and equivocal expressions. . . .

. . . any attempt to ensnare an adversary by
arts or sophistry, or to lessen the force of his reasoning by wit,
cavilling, or ridicule, is a violation of honorable controversy . . .

Hmm. Well, I know I can bite my tongue and be just as academic
and dry and even outright pedantic as need be . . .

But if, e.g., Dave and Walt Jr. are forbidden technical
ambiguities, equivocal expressions, sophistry and "unmeaning
expressions" [like Walt's biblical Ad Baculums] well, they'd never get a
post past the moderator . . .
