In a post sent at 1100 PM, 6/20/96, Titled: Canaanite sacrifices to Molech,
Till said: "DEUTERONOMY 12:29-31, "When Yahweh your God cuts off from before
you the nations which you go to dispossess, and you displace them and dwell
in their land, take heed to yourself that you are not ensnared to follow
them, after they are destroyed from before you, and that you do not inquire
after their gods, saying, 'How do these nations serve their gods? I also
will do likewise.' You shall not worship Yahweh your God in that way; for
every abomination to Yahweh which he hates they have done to their gods; for
they burn even their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods." The same
orders were issued with reference to the seven mighty nations in Deuteronomy
7. The Israelites were commanded not to intermarry with them, because that
would turn them aside to worshiping the gods of those nations. The
Israelites were ordered to destroy the altars and sacred images of those
nations. Here again is another passage warning Israel not to turn aside to
the gods of those nations they were going to dispossess. One additional
idea is included in the passage above that was not in Deuteronomy 7: these
nations burned their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods. Now Baker
needs to explain to us what evidence he has that would indicate that the
squirrels, rabbits, mice, wolves, badgers, hoofed animals, etc. living in
Canaan at this time offered their sons and daughters as burnt offerings to
their gods."

My response was: "There is no indication the Girgasites, Perizzites, and
Hittites were the subject of these verses. It is clear that human Canaanites
were dwelling in the land of Canaan prior to the conquest. These Canaanites
worshipped various local gods, including lions, birds, and even winged
serpents. The bible records a great deal on the fact that the Canaanites,
and later the Israelites who followed suit, offered their newborn babies,
and young children to Molech, who is identifiable with Baal."

Let me add that Till has yet to document that the Girgasites, Perizzites, or
Hittites (this early in Canaanite history) were human. If he can, I am sure
he will. However, like as before he dodged his way around all of the issues
I raised by always raising new questions and demanding that I answer them.
Also instead of addressing the issues he would try to scorn by making jokes
about squirrels being people who sacrificed their children to Molech.

In any event this is another example where it is clear that I did 'TOUCH' on
the issues of Deu 7. Let me again however, clarify my position about the
seven nations of Canaan. They can be classified into two groups. The first
group would be the humans, which would have course included the Canaanites.
There is examples in the Bible where other humans were identified as human,
but called by animal names. The Hivites, Hittites, Jebusites, Amalekites,
and Amorites are good examples. So in the first group there could be humans
that were identified by the animals they herded and cared for, or because
they worshipped these animals as their gods. In the second group would be
the animals, such as the Girgasites, (ground dwelling animals), and the
Perizzites (wolves).
